19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid period, achieving just one match at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in specific - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's initial championship after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from that period of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's retrieving approach and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted commentators to question if his capacity to compete at the top level was over.

But the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and compete positively, supported by an enhanced service.

He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour victory, took control to create a decider.

He defended four initial break points in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
